Packing list

Ecuador Packing List

Pack in one large suitcase (less than 50lbs) plus your carry on and personal item. You will need to be able to carry/move your own luggage into and out of the airport. If you have extra space, great! We have some items to transport to the Orellanas.

You should pack a few items in carry-on luggage, just in case. Follow these guidelines for all packing. www.tsa.gov/travel/travel-tips/travel-checklist. Feel free to ask questions if you have them!

Clothing: 10 days (Plan for daily temperatures of 60-85)

  • Plenty of extra socks. It’s going to rain regularly.
  • Jacket
  • “Tennis” shoes
  • Jeans/pants (School and church) Orellanas also said we’d mostly just wear pants because of bugs.
  • T-shirts – including your GOEcuador shirt!
  • Active clothes for sports
  • Clothes for painting buildings in (possibly multiple days)
  • Sleeping clothes
  • Hat and sunglasses
  • Shower shoes

Remember: shorts and skirts should be mid-thigh at least, no leggings as pants, or spaghetti strap. Your clothes should be modest, conservative and glorifying to God. Adults will tell people to change if necessary.

Bedding
(sleeping on camp bunks)

  • Pillow
  • Sheets and blankets will be provided. You don’t need to bring these.

Personal (put liquids in a plastic bag, to prevent leaks)

  • Shampoo and soap (for shower)
  • Toothbrush and toothpaste
  • Deodorant
  • Bug spray
  • Sunscreen
  • Refillable water bottle (labeled)
  • Bible, notebook, pen
  • Medications, etc. (if you typically take something, take it). Tell your GOE group adult and/or a leader in your cabin know about your medicine.
  • Towel
  • Optional: Deck of cards or some similar small game. Put this in your carry-on.
  • NO KNIVES
  • Passport
  • Spending money as desired (~$50—small bills are best). Just for souvenirs, etc.

Phones/Electronics?

  • -          Optional and discouraged. This is a good opportunity to take a break from these! Leaders will have phones and Jonathan will post some for those back home. Cameras are fine!

Other helpful info

Details about the schools

  • More regulations than ever before. A good thing for the students but makes it more involved for us to be there.
  • School days:
  • 7:00am-12:30pm – Session 1
  • 1:15-5:45pm – Session 2 (totally different group of students)
  • 1 high school (7th-12th?), 3 elementary schools.
  • Students are divided by age and grade rather than ability in a language. So we’ll have some that know basically no English and one in the class who’s decent at it.
  • We will likely teach 2 classes in the morning and 2 in the afternoon. Not all 6 of our GOE groups will likely teach 4 each day. We’re going to be FLEXIBLE.
  • Lots is still up in the air and will be. We’re discovering what it’s like to be a missionary!
  • So keep praying, just like they do. God will work in awesome ways we can’t imagine.

Details about the camp

  • Nice camp
  • Showers (with individual stalls
  • Cabins, like what we’re used to with retreats
  • Fields for playing sports
  • Gym for playing inside
  • Incredible views!

Weather

  • -          It’s been sunny more in the mornings, then cloudy and some rain in the afternoons. More light showers, not downpours.
